Intro

BitClout (→Wiki) is a social media platform that looks and feels a lot like Twitter. In contrast to these it is a decentralised social media platform that lives on a blockchain (similarly to Bitcoin) which means that there is no central owner for your data. BitClout was created by the anonymous user Diamondhands.

He is simply responsible for architecting the code which is open source and does not own the entire network as Mark Zuckerberg does for Facebook. BitClout itself lives on the internet instead of a privately-owned server and therefore it cannot be shut down. The computers that verify the network are called nodes. Due to its distributed nature there is no single point of failure within the network.

Bitclout’s node structure also means that there will be no centralized moderation policies in place which means that users aren’t punished for expressing unconventional views. This however can also lead to a lot of scams of any sort to steal funding from other users. There are already several private user initiatives to denounce fake accounts which try to deceive with profiles similar to famous creators. These of course can be fake accounts as well, so cautiousness is highly recommended in these open waters.
